2022 marked the second playing of THE JOHN SHIPPEN National Golf Invitational, a competition between the nation's top amateur and professional black golfers. The champions of two women's and one men's event receive exemptions into LPGA tournaments and the PGA TOUR's Rocket Mortgage Classic in Detroit. John Shippen was the first American, first African American and youngest American (age 17) to ever play in a U.S. Open in 1896 at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club.
